What Your First Session Will Look Like
The first session generally is an opportunity for you and your therapist to get to know each other! And, for them to get an understanding of you and your world. When you enter, your therapist will go over informed consent. Which is a documented process in which a person agrees to treatment after being informed of the nature, risks and alternatives to therapy. Then it’s on to the intake assessment, which is a structured evaluation to gather background, history and, presenting concerns before treatment begins! After we tackle that (if completed within the first session) we then make a treatment plan. Often a documented, goal-oriented roadmap for a person’s course of care. The first session can be a bit overwhelming, but fret not! Session’s forward are not as information heavy and are focused on building rapport along with the therapeutic bond.
